The proper way to lock and wind strings

For acoustic guitars, I like to get the string wrapped around the post with at least 4 windings to prevent slipping. Same for electric guitars that do not have locking tuners.  For those with locking tuners and to use on guitars for heavy dive-bombing, just pull the string through the hole and lock it down.  This way when you tune the strings you will have only about ¾ of a turn around the peg.  This helps keep the guitar in tune because there are fewer windings on the peg that need to be retightened.  I personally love locking tuners; they make changing strings faster.

Massaging string- There are several ways to stretch a new string so it will stay in tune.  Nothing worse than getting on stage with strings that are constantly out of tune.  I put the strings on and bring them up to about ½ pitch and then using both index fingers and thumbs gently lift the string up while applying downward pressure.  You will feel the string stretching.  Taking a little extra time and patience will greatly improve the time your new strings will hold their tune.   All this to help make your playing and practice time more enjoyable here in Marietta, Kennesaw, Rowell and Alpharetta Georgia.
